As of May 2026, standard Vermont passenger license plates feature white lettering on a green background, typically in an ABC 123 format. The plate includes "Vermont" at the top center, a white sugar maple symbol, and "Green Mountain State" at the bottom, with most vehicles requiring both front and rear plates.

Key Features of Current Vermont Plates:

Design: White lettering/numbers on a green, reflectorized background.

Text: "Vermont" on top, "Green Mountain State" on bottom.

Symbol: A white sugar maple leaf appears on the top left.

Numbering: Sequential format is generally AAA 001, with letters U, V, Z active as of late-2023, while I, J, O, Q are omitted.

Characters: The digit "0" is always used instead of the letter "O".

Stickers: No renewal/validation stickers are required or issued as of November 1, 2023.

Display: Both front and rear plates are required for most vehicles.

Specialty & Other Plates:

Conservation Plates: Often feature animals, with the Common Loon being the most popular.
