As of mid-2025, Pennsylvania introduced a new standard license plate featuring a "Let Freedom Ring" slogan and a Liberty Bell design to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary in 2026. These, along with previous blue/yellow/white designs, are currently on the road, with the new plates available via PennDOT.
Key Features of the New 2025-2026 Liberty Bell Plate:
Design: Features the Liberty Bell prominently in the center.
Color Palette: Uses red, white, and blue lettering.
Slogan: Contains the phrase "Let Freedom Ring" at the bottom.
Background: An off-white, light-colored background.
Purpose: Celebrates the 250th anniversary of the U.S., with PA as the birthplace of American democracy.
Key Features of the Previous Standard Plate (Still Valid):
Colors: Primarily white with blue letters, a blue stripe top, and a yellow stripe bottom.
Website: "VisitPA.com" is typically included.
Layout: A small keystone separator is often used.
Important Notes:
Transition: PennDOT began issuing the new Liberty Bell plates in June 2025. Existing standard plate inventory is being used before a full transition, meaning both styles are currently on the road.
Optional Swap: The new plates are not automatically issued, but drivers can request them via Form MV-44LB for a $13 fee.
Stickers: Registration renewal stickers are no longer used; they were eliminated in December 2016.
Letters: Letters I, O, Q, and U are not used on passenger plates.
