As of mid-2026, the current standard Ohio license plate is the "Sunrise in Ohio" design, introduced in late 2021. It features a bright, multi-colored scene with a white-to-blue gradient sky, a skyline, rolling hills, waterways, and a child on a swing. Only a rear plate is required.

Key Features of the "Sunrise in Ohio" Plate:

Design Imagery: The graphic includes a city skyline, a farm field, hills, water, and a child swinging from a tree.

Aviation Theme: The design highlights Ohio's history as the "Birthplace of Aviation".

Color Palette: The, plate is described as having bright, refreshing colors, featuring a "sunrise" gradient.

Text/Layout: The word "OHIO" appears at the top, and the plate features a "sunshine" theme.

Material: The plates are made of aluminum, produced by Ohio Penal Industries.

Plate Requirements & Numbers:

Single Plate: Since July 1, 2020, Ohio law only requires a single rear license plate.

Numbering: The standard format is a combination of letters and numbers (e.g., ABC 1234), usually with a "AAA 0000" structure.

Validation: Standard renewal stickers are placed on the rear plate.
