From every state excluding truck, motorcycle, bus, government, and specialty.
The current standard Maryland license plate, introduced in September 2016 and known as the "Maryland Proud" plate, features a reflective white background with a graphic of the Maryland state flag along the bottom edge. It has black, top-centered "Maryland" text in a red script font and uses a 1AB2345 (number-letter-letter-number) alphanumeric format.
Key Features of the "Maryland Proud" Plate:
Design: A vibrant, four-color state flag (black, gold, red, white) dominates the bottom half of the plate.
Text & Lettering: The characters are black. "Maryland" is written in a smaller red script font at the top.
Serial Format: The format is generally 1AB2345 (e.g., 1AB2345), consisting of one number, followed by two letters, and then four numbers.
Excluded Letters: To avoid confusion, the letters I, O, Q, and U are typically not used in these standard plates.
Revalidation: Renewal stickers are black on white, with the rear plate requiring both month and year stickers.
Availability: These plates replaced the previous "War of 1812" plates as the standard issue for passenger vehicles, SUVs, and trucks.
These plates are issued by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) and are part of a pair (front and rear) for most passenger vehicles.
