plate

The current standard Iowa license plate (2018 series) features a white background with dark blue lettering, typically in a "AAA 111" format, and displays the county name at the bottom. The plate showcases a subtle grey, scenic graphic in the center, and "IOWA" in blue at the top. It is flat (not embossed) with a reflective finish.

Key Features of Iowa Standard Plates:

Design: White background with a subtle farm/city scene graphic.

Lettering: Dark blue.

Layout: "IOWA" is at the top, and the county name is at the bottom.

Format: Three letters followed by three numbers (e.g., ABC 123).

Type: Flat (screen-printed) on reflective, white sheeting.

Pairing: Front and rear plates are required.

Specialty Note: While the 2018 "scenic" design is standard, many drivers use the popular black-on-white "[Blackout]" specialty plates.

The 2018 series replaced the previous blue-on-white embossed design that debuted in 1996. Plates are typically replaced when they are 10 years old.
